Exploring Process-Driven Techniques through Design, Pattern, Color, Abstraction, Acrylic and Mixed Media
by Eva Marie Magill-Oliver
This book takes a unique approach to creating using loosely guided exercises to create abstract art and learn about the five core principles of design: balance, proportion, rhythm, emphasis, and unity.
It goes beyond the basics and suggests some alternate materials and methods you may not have thought to try before.
I think this approach may help if you have been reluctant to try to create art because you felt restricted to realism, especially if you are a perfectionist. Perfectionism can stifle creativity. Abstraction can bring freedom.
